Public writing is a skill, and like any skill, it grows through feedback, support, and practice. That is where this mentorship comes in. You are paired with a fellow PAN writer who has experience with public writing and wants to help others find their voice in this space. We want to help you create exciting and accessible writing.
What’s in it for you?
You will receive support and guidance as you craft writing that speaks beyond academia. Your mentor won’t be a subject-matter expert, and that’s on purpose—they’ll offer a fresh, real-world perspective to help make your piece clear and compelling for broader audiences. Whether you’re working on an op-ed, a Medium post, a magazine article, or even a book proposal, this is a chance to sharpen your message and learn new tools along the way.
Who should join?
Everyone, from those early in their career with new perspectives to share, experienced professionals but new to writing for the public, someone who’s wanted to try public writing for a while, and those already writing publicly and looking for feedback.
What kind of writing is welcome?
Basically, anything intended for a public audience.
• Medium essays
• Magazine or newspaper pieces
• Book proposals or chapters
• Policy briefs
• Blog posts
• Book reviews
